The man who threatened police during a six-hour standoff in Fridley last month was charged Friday in Anoka County District Court with multiple counts of assault.

Eugene Boos, 42, who has no permanent address, was wanted because he had violated his probation by possessing several guns and 5 ounces of methamphetamine, authorities say. He was on probation linked to a 1994 murder conviction for stabbing a man to death in a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp.

Boos wasn't at the residence where police found the guns and drugs Dec. 30, but they believed he was at an apartment in Fridley.

When offices and deputies went to the apartment and confronted him, Boos said he would shoot anybody who entered, the court document said.

The apartment building was evacuated, and police set up and maintained contact with him. Boos, who called a Twin Cities TV station during the standoff, said he had "armor-piercing rounds" and threatened to shoot the woman who was in the apartment with him, the document said.

Boos pointed a gun at police during the standoff and was shot in the hand.

He eventually was arrested.

On Friday, he was charged with three counts of using deadly force against a peace officer, three counts of first- and second-degree assault and three counts of prohibited possession of a gun by a violent felon. Bail was set at $3 million.

"We are grateful that no one was killed," said Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo. "Law enforcement did an outstanding job of resolving this dangerous situation."
