The death of the man who killed himself in the Hennepin County jail this week was the second suicide at the facility since it opened in 2000.

Doua Yang, 46, of Green Bay, Wis., was found unresponsive in his cell about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. Deputies immediately began CPR, and paramedics continued emergency medical treatment and took him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. He hung himself with a bedsheet.

Yang's death is under review by the Sheriff's Office.

Yang was charged Aug. 14 with sexually assaulting a girl who was known to him, documents show. He had been arrested by Minneapolis police.

He had been in jail for 12 days, and his next court date was to have been Sept. 17. His bail had been set at $500,000.

The jail is accredited by the American Correctional Association, the only accredited facility in the state. As part of the accreditation, the association recommends jail staff check inmates every 30 minutes.

Jail staffers then sign off on a log, which are time-stamped.

The first suicide at the jail happened in 2008. A 42-year-old woman arrested for drunken driving hanged herself with a metal cord from the cell's wall-mounted telephone several hours after she was booked into jail.
