A man was fighting for his life Tuesday after being hit by an eastbound light rail train in St. Paul the night before, officials said.
The incident occurred about 7:50 p.m. Monday along the rail line at Prior Avenue, said Metro Transit spokesman Howie Padilla.
Padilla said David John Hardy, 49, of Minneapolis, was in critical condition at Regions Hospital as of Tuesday morning.
Authorities have yet to explain the circumstances that led to him being struck.
"Preliminary information from initial viewing of video evidence shows that he appeared to be staggering before laying on [the] tracks," Padilla .
