Down to just 10 healthy players, Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman will start Malcolm Lee at shooting guard tonight in Dallas in a makeshift lineup for injured Chase Budinger, who started Saturday's game for injured Brandon Roy.

Adelman said he wants to keep rookie Alexey Shved in his familiar role off the bench at shooting guard and he hopes Lee's defense will slow down some hot Mavericks guard O.J. Mayo.

Budinger will undergo surgery sometime this week to repair a torn meniscus in his knee.

Roy will miss his second consecutive game tonight because of a sore knee. He said he hopes to get a good practice in on Tuesday and he intends to play Wednesday against Charlotte at Target Center.

Adelman said he's hopeful Roy and J.J. Barea both will be back for that game.

Adelman said also there's been discussion within management about whether the team should try to add a player and who that player should be, but he sounded like nothing was imminent and suggested it could depend on what doctors say after Budinger's surgery.

By NBA rules, the Wolves would have to waive a current player to make room to sign or trade for somebody until they trade a player away in the deal. Adelman said he wasn't sure if the team could, or would, petition the league for an injury exemption so they could add a player.

When asked who is backup small forward is tonight, Adelman said he doesn't have one.

He will ask Dante Cunningham and Derrick Williams to help out there and said he doesn't want to test Andrei Kirilenko to play 42 minutes every night like he did Saturday in Chicago, but acknowledged he might have to do so tonight against a Mavs team missing Dirk Nowitzki and Shawn Marion.
