Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell, who has talked about pursuing a career in golf when he's done with football, has received an invitation to play in the Bob Hope Classic golf tournament this month in California.

One of the largest celebrity pro am golf tournaments will be played on four courses in La Quinta the week of Jan. 17-23.

Longwell will spend the tournament playing with a pro golfer but that hasn't yet been set. He will have his former Green Bay teammate and roommate Bill Schroeder caddy for him.

Longwell, who lives in the Isleworth golf community in Windermere, Fla., played in his first tournament in 2005 when he participated in three events on the Canadian Tour as part of a deal set up by The Golf Channel. Last spring, Longwell attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open.

Longwell, who has been with the Vikings since 2006, will be a free agent this offseason.
