Heneeya Myrick

Most youngsters don't have much interest in PBS's news department. Most youngsters aren't Heneeya Myrick.

Myrick, a 7th grader at St. Paul City School, beat out hundreds of applicants to win the #MyZeitgeist contest,a partnership between "NewsHour Extra" and Google, which set off to get young people's perception of world affairs. The students used Meograph and YouTube to edit together short video pieces.

Katie Gould, the teacher resource producer for "NewsHour Extra," said Myrick approached the task with a great sense of creativity.

"She included events that were important globally, but also that she believed deserved more attention within her community," she said. "She showed an incredible amount of maturity for a 7th grader."

Myrick will received a Nexus 7 Tablet and will be featured on YouTube's education channel.
