The rhetoric of the super PACs is making this presidential contest very uncivil. On Interstate 35 at the Grantsburg exit, there is a billboard stating that a vote for President Obama is a vote for socialism.

The other side claims that Bain Capital -- and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney -- is responsible for the death of the wife of a worker laid off after a Bain-leveraged buyout. Both candidates need to disclaim advertisements that distort or misrepresent the truth.

The Supreme Court decision that allows such claims in the name of free speech brings with it the opportunity for political entities to engage in incivility. Let them desist in the interest of our democratic process.
