Burnsville didn't wait for Thanksgiving to get its holiday season started. The annual lighting ceremony in the Heart of the City was held the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Including the seasonal displays in Nicollet Commons park as well as lights along major streets, the city illuminated more than 200,000 mini lights and 230 streetlight snowflakes. The displays have used LED lights, which use about 90 percent less energy than traditional bulbs, for three years, the city says.

The ceremony was sponsored by the Burnsville Community Foundation, and Jo Jo's Rise & Wine, Chianti Grill and Cub Foods pitched in with complimentary goodies for the crowd.
