A couple of stories of cops in trouble punctuate the news in Minnesota:

The short-lived law enforcement career of 22-year-old Adam Koenig appears to be over. The sheriff's deputy from Walsh County, N.D., resigned Tuesday in the wake of charges that allege he broke into a Minnesota convenience store in Crookston, Minn., last week. The Grand Forks Herald says Koenig was hired in September as a deputy in Grafton, N.D. His next court appearance in Jan. 14.

Michelle Rafferty, 43, was charged in December with petty theft, a city ordinance violation. She had been scheduled for a trial before a Duluth judge, but the case has been resolved.

Rafferty's prosecution will be deferred for one year and if she commits no same or similar crime the case will be dismissed on Oct. 10, 2013. She was fined $100. The maximum penalty for the violation was a $1,000 fine with no jail time.
