Lakeville South jumped to the girls' True Team track and field championship at Stillwater -- literally.

The Cougars' Morgan Pieri won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 6 inches and teammates Caraline Slattery (5-4) and Shaina Burns (5-4) made it a 1-2-3 sweep for 78 huge points en route to an 880 total and a first Class 3A championship.

"We knew the field events would give us that boost halfway through the meet," coach Andrew Hilliard said.

Lakeville South gained further separation from runner-up and South Suburban Conference foe Prior Lake, which had an early lead, when Allison Mosser joined Pieri and Slattery among the top 11 in the triple jump. Burns, Mosser and Slattery were also all in the top six of the 300-meter hurdles.

The Cougars' Jordyn Thornton won the shot put with a throw of 44-3¼, inches and Monica Turner was third.

Prior Lake, which finished with 822.5 points, was dominant in the middle- and long-distance running events. Taylor Scholl won the 1,600-meter run and was followed by Samantha Anderson (third) and Macy Violett (fifth). Scholl also won the 3,200.

Madison Lesmeister (second), Leah Amundson (sixth) and Sabrina Hille (seventh) paced the 400-meter run.

Lakeville North was sixth in the meet. Belle Plaine finished seventh in Class 2A. Rosemount finished third in the Class 3A boys' competition.
