7. Jamyson 'n Ginger, Irad Ortiz Jr.8-1

8. Dancing Rags, Angel Cruz12-1

9. Union Strike, Martin Garcia6-1

10. Noted and Quoted, Rafael Bejarano9-2

11. Daddys Lil Darling, Corey Lanerie12-1

12. American Gal, Mike Smith6-1

Five winners have been 30-1 or plus since the inauguration of this race, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a healthy price cross the wire first today. AMERICAN GAL is 2-for-2 in the sprinting column and will step up to routing. Trainer Bob Baffert knows how to spot his horses, and he is bringing her back on two weeks rest. Snappy bullet drill this week suggests she's cranked to go, and I look for her to attempt to go wire-to-wire. Stablemate NOTED AND QUOTED is the one to beat, coming in after her impressive Grade 1 victory last out. Her experience at this track and at this distance gives her the advantage. SWEET LORETTA is undefeated in three starts and she has overcame a couple of contaminated starts to do so. Stretches out to two turns for first time and is clearly fast enough to run with this group.

FILLY & MARE TURF • 5th race

PP Horse, JockeyOdds

1. Sea Calisi, Florent Geroux8-1

2. Catch a Glimpse, Javier Castallano12-1

3. Seventh Heaven, Ryan Moore3-1

4. Avenge, Flavien Prat15-1

5. Al's Gal, Jose Ortiz15-1

6. Zipessa, Joe Bravo20-1

7. Sentiero Italia, Joel Rosario12-1

8. Lady Eli, Irad Ortiz Jr.5-2

9. Ryans Charm, Rafael Bejarano30-1

10. Kitcat, Gonzalo Ulloa Perez20-1

11. Queen's Trust, Frankie Dettori6-1

12. Pretty Perfect, Seamus Heffernan15-1

13. Nuovo Record, Yutaka Take12-1

LADY ELI is the one to beat and is a fan favorite to racing fans after overcoming a life-threatening illness this past year. This four-year-old filly has a knack for finding the wire when things get interesting and should have the perfect pace scenario. Trainer Chad Brown has won this race three of the past four years. SENTIERO ITALIA was nailed at the wire by Lady Eli last out after trying to lead the field on the front end to the finish. Have to respect her speed, and I think she might sit off the pace a bit while letting others do the dirty work. SEA CALISI has two Graded wins since being imported from Europe earlier this year. She's another Chad Brown runner who will be compromised by a projected fast pace and starts off the fence for a ground-saving trip. SEVENTH HEAVEN is the main threat for the Euros to get the victory.

SPRINT • 6th race

Post Time: 3:21 pm • 6 furlongs (Dirt), 3-years-old and up • Purse: $1.5 million

PP Horse, JockeyOdds

1. Mind Your Biscuits, Joel Rosario20-1

2. Drefong, Martin Garcia7-2

3. Delta Bluesman, Emisael Jaramillo15-1

4. Joking, Manny Franco15-1

5. A. P. Indian, Joe Bravo4-1

6. Masochistic, Mike Smith2-1

7. Noholdingback Bear, Eurico Da Silva15-1

8. Limousine Liberal, Jose Ortiz15-1

The California-based runners have the edge here with their speed as I see the winner being on or near the lead. MASOCHISTIC ran a career-high speed number last out in an easy gate-to-wire win in the Grade 2 Pat O'Brien while being ridden handily. Deserving favorite will have entertainment up front with DREFONG keeping him company, but could have a full tank of speed left. Drefong is a promising three-year-old colt and has been picture-perfect in past four starts. Training smartly and might last longer than most believe. A.P. INDIAN looms the out-of-state threat and will have dead aim on his rivals from slightly off the pace.

14. Celestine, Joel Rosario14-1

AE-15. Lady Shipman, Irad Ortiz Jr.12-1

AE-16. Green Mask, Julien Leparoux15-1

I love that OBVIOUSLY, an eight-year-old classy veteran, cuts back down the hill after routing his past 15 races. Has tactical speed to sit close to the front and stamina to outlast others. OM is another local runner cutting back in distance and tough to ignore with HOF rider Gary Stevens aboard. Should be sitting behind Obviously coming down the hill, carrying his speed to the stretch run. The best of the California turf sprinters to keep a eye on are AMBITIOUS BREW and HOLY LUTE. Both are coming off Grade 3 wins down the hill.

5. Classic Empire, Julien Leparoux4-1

6. Three Rules, Cornelio Velasquez8-1

9. Practical Joke, Joel Rosario6-1

10. Not This Time, Robby Albarado7-2

11. Lookin At Lee, Ricardo Santana Jr.20-1

This race is loaded with speed and could set up nicely for someone like NOT THIS TIME, who will come rolling late. Not This Time might have been compromised by a muddy track last out, but he circled the field after leaping out of the gate. Trainer Dale Romans is very high on his two-year-old. CLASSIC EMPIRE is another legitimate player who has the right running style, tagging along behind the speedsters for first attack. Took command last out for three-length win in Grade 1 Futurity race at Keeneland. Expect SYNDERGARD, THEORY, THREE RULES and GORMLEY to battle early for the lead. Wide open race.

10. Found, Ryan Moore3-1

11. Texas Ryano, Flavien Prat30-1

12. Highland Reel, Seamus Heffernan3-1

13. Metaboss, Rafael Bejarano30-1

The Europeans for the most part have dominated this race. FOUND ships back to America to defend her title and is strictly the one to beat. If there is a concern, she's been a bridesmaid 10 times in her career. There was talk of her running in the Classic against the boys, but this is the wise decision. I think she breaks the boys' hearts once again, getting to the wire first. FLINTSHIRE has been dominating since arriving in this country last August and is the main threat to beat Found. Has finished no worse than second since arriving. The concern with Flintshire is that he lost his last race at 1-5 odds in a shocker to frontrunner ECTOT. Ectot will be in the lead once again and strictly the one to catch on a firm turf course. HIGHLAND REEL ran second to Found last out and is worthy of consideration.

10. Wavell Avenue, Joel Rosario6-1

11. Irish Jasper, Irad Ortiz Jr.10-1

12. Finest City, Mike Smith12-1

13. Spelling Again, Luis Saez20-1

WAVELL AVENUE draws a nice outside post position and has the speed to her inside for swooping on in this 7-furlong race defending her title. Legit excuse last out on a muddy track where she never really caught her footing and finished third best. Training well coming in and should get the ferocious fractions she'll be looking for. HAVEYOUGONEAWAY is the lukewarm morning line favorite after her win in the Grade 1 Ballerina at Saratoga in August coming from off the pace. Looks for her fourth straight win, but I prefer others in such a wide-open event. GLORYZAPPER will try to pull off the upset in front-running fashion and could catch a late gear if goes unchallenged.

MILE • 11th race

Post Time: 6:40 pm • 1 mile (Turf), 3-year-olds and up • Purse: $2 million

PP Horse, JockeyOdds

1. What a View, Tyler Baze20-1

8. Tepin, Julien Leparoux3-1

9. Ironicus, Jose Ortiz8-1

11. Ring Weekend, John Velazquez20-1

12. Hit It a Bomb, Seamus Heffernan20-1

13. Midnight Storm, Rafael Bejarano12-1

14. Cougar Mountain, Donnacha O'Brien20-1

The race goes through defending champ TEPIN, who I am a big fan of and who will be heavily bet. I prefer others today after watching her not catch up to long-shot runaway winner PHOTO CALL last out at Keeneland. I think if she loses today, it will come at the hands of one of the European runners, so I'm leaning toward LIMATO and ALICE SPRINGS. Limato has eight wins and appears to be peaking at the right time. Alice Springs is a multiple Grade 1 winner and appears to have tightened the screws, coming in with consecutive victories. PHOTO CALL will whirl for the gate-to-wire win once again, but duplicating last effort over Tepin could prove much more difficult today.

CALIFORNIA CHROME is the best four-year-old in the world, and the Classic is his race to lose. He has dominated his competition this year as he has matured. We watched him get better and better with each race, and he loves the Santa Anita track, where he has five wins. There is plenty to be positive about using him as a single on your exotic wagers. ARROGATE set a track record for the Travers Stakes at Saratoga with a 122 speed figure. Has the speed to give California Chrome all he can handle, but I can't see him giving a repeat performance of Saratoga. EFFINEX and FROSTED are my choices if pace meltdown does occur.
