There will be a whole lot of tweeting from the Minnesota State Fair on Friday as hundreds of social-media geeks share food on a stick and actually talk to one another in person.

It's all happening at a morning meeting of the Social Media Breakfast – Minneapolis/St. Paul Chapter. The event -- 8-9:30 a.m. Friday at the State Fairgrounds, Blue Ribbon Picnic Area (D24 - Corner of Dan Patch & Randall) -- is for people to gather and talk about using social media in their businesses or careers.

"The real power of social media is making connections with others," say organizers Rick Mahn and Mykl Roventine. "SMBMSP takes that to the next level by bridging online and real-life interactions. It's also a celebration of the vibrant local tech community."

The event is open to the public and free (although fair admission applies). So drop by if you have a hankering to talk about effective uses for Twitter, Facebook and other social media. There will even be music and haiku about bacon.

"While not a conscious goal, the notoriety SMBMSP is bringing to the local community is a fantastic side effect," the organizers said, in explaining why the group hosts such events. "SMB cities across the country as well as more tech-savy areas are starting to see how special our local community is. We've also created a much stronger network within the local community. The most exciting thing is to watch the growing number of collaborations and connections resulting from SMBMSP."
