The U.S. Postal Service has retained CBRE to market and sell the historic post office building in downtown St. Paul. The asking price is $5 million.

Located at 180 Kellogg Boulevard, the Eugene McCarthy Post Office spans 750,000 square feet, and was built in phases in 1933 and 1966. This property sits on the Mississippi riverfront and CBRE officials say it offers tremendous redevelopment opportunity. A previous sale set for this fall has fallen through.

Joseph Hughes and Jerry Driessen of CBRE Minneapolis/St. Paul are representing the Postal Service in the sale. Offers for the property are due Jan. 15, 2013
