Warm weather is allowing local and state transportation and public works departments to get started on projects that had been postponed due to the cold and snow in April. In other cases, work that had started will continue, so look for lots of orange cones, barrels and "Road Closed" signs. Here is a rundown:

Park and Portland Avenue bridges close Monday

Starting Monday, the Park and Portland Avenue bridges over I-94 in Minneapolis closed at 9 a.m. Monday to all motorized and non-motorized traffic. The bridges will remain closed through early August as MnDOT puts on new decks and sidewalks. Bicycle traffic and pedestrians will be detoured via Chicago Av. S., although other routes into and out of downtown include 1st and LaSalle Avenues, 3rd Avenue and 11th Avenue S.

In conjunction with the bridge closures, segements of I-94 and I-35W will also be closed during overnight hours this week:

At 10 p.m. Monday, eastbound I-94 between the I-35W/94 split and Highway 55 will close.
At 10 p.m. Tuesday, northbound I-35W between Hwy. 65 and Park Avenue will close.
At 10 p.m. Wednesday, southbound I-35W between Hwy. 55 and Franklin Avenue will close.At 10 p.m. Thursday, westbound I-94 between Hwy. 280 and Hwy. 65/35W will close.

All lanes will re-open by 5 a.m. on the following day, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

I-394 MnPASS lanes closed at times through July

MnDOT crews will be replacing protective gate arms on the I-394 HOT lane between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m .weekdays, plus on evenings and weekends as necessary. The work will take place between I-94 and Hwy. 100.

The HOT lanes will be open weekdays: Eastbound from 6 to 10 a.m. and westbound from 2 to 7 p.m. They also will be open during major events as needed, MnDOT says. The project will run through July

Phalen Blvd. closed through Monday

Watermain repair and utility work on Phalen Blvd. in St. Paul is taking longer than expected. The road will remain closed between Mississippi Street and Olive Street (just east of I-35E) until sometime Monday.

The detour will take motorists and pedestrians along Mississippi Street, University Avenue and Olive Street.

Hwy. 101 in Chanhassen closed til September

Work to rebuild Hwy. 101 between Lyman Blvd. and Pioneer Trail started Monday. The project includes widening Hwy. 101 to include four lanes with a divider along with pedestrian/bicycle trails and a trail underpass.

The road will be closed until early September.

Spring Lake Park bridge renovation

Works started Monday to renovate a pedestrian bridge over Hwy. 65 in Spring lake Park at 80th Avenue NE. Motorists can expect short-term traffic restrictions that will include reduced speeds, off-peak lane closures and shoulders that will be closed.

The highway will remain open, except for the weekend of June 14-17. The bridge will remain open to pedestrains until June 10. It will then be closed until Aug. 30.

Bridge work on 35E/35 in Burnsville

A major road project in the south metro begins at 10 p.m. Friday. Southbound I-35E will be closed at County Road 42 as the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins construction on a new flyover bridge that carries traffic from 35E to southbound 35. The closure will be in effect until June 2.

The bridge work is the beginning of a summer-long project in which MnDOT will do surface repair between Cliff Road in Eagan and the Elko/New Market exit.

Work on Hwy. 52

The ramp from southbound 35E to southbound Hwy. 52 will remain closed until 7 a.m. Tuesday. It was to have opened Monday.

Southbound Hwy. 52 will be closed from 8 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday to allow MnDOT crews to restripe the highway from Concord Street to Hwy. 5. Northbound lanes will remain open.

Delays on 94 in east metro

Motorists on I-94 will see the left lane closed between Century Avenue and the I-694/494 interchange through mid-May. MnDOT crews are installing new overhead electronic message boards.

New cable medians on 35E

MnDOT crews are installing new cable barriers in the center median along I-35E between County Road. 96 and County Road J in White Bear Lake. The left lane in both directions will be closed during non-rush hour periods through June 1.
