U.S. stocks edged lower on Wednesday, extending losses from a sell-off a day earlier. Investors are nervous about the likelihood of higher U.S. interest rates and the sharp appreciation in the value of the dollar.

The Nasdaq composite fell 9.85 points, or 0.2 percent, to 4,849.94.

The Dow is down 221.39 points, or 1.2 percent.
The S&P 500 index is down 31.02 points, or 1.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 77.43 points, or 1.6 percent.

The Dow is down 187.68 points, or 1.1 percent.
The S&P 500 index is down 18.66 points, or 0.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 113.89 points, or 2.4 percent.
