Details: Medical building developer Davis Group is proceeding with plans to demolish a 52-year-old office building along Interstate 394 and replace it with a 31,000-square-foot facility to be occupied by Minnesota Eye Consultants.

The Minnetonka Planning Commission last week approved a site plan and several variances for the new building. Davis Group Principal Mark Davis said the Lasik surgery specialists have signed a 20-year lease to be its sole occupant.

Under the plans, Minnesota Eye, which has three other clinics in the Twin Cities, would relocate its current facility in Plymouth to the Minnetonka building. It would include 48 staff members and five full-time doctors.

The eye-care provider says the new building will have three components: an outpatient-only ambulatory surgery center on the first floor, a full-service ophthalmology clinic on the second floor and physician offices.

It will include 12 examination rooms, 18 testing/treatment rooms and a clinical procedure room.

Plans from BDH & Young architects show building materials including two colors of brick with metal or wood accent panels near the entrances and along the roof line.

The commission unanimously approved the plans, which will next be considered by the Minnetonka City Council at its May 13 meeting.
