Scott Honour, a Republican candidate for governor, has netted big name supporters with considerable experience in politics who say his "lack of experience in elected office" is a "huge plus."

The supporters, who include former GOP Party chair Bill Cooper, former U.S. Sen. Rudy Boschwitz and major donors like David Frauenshuh and Michael Hayden, said in a fundraising letter that: "we don't need another professional politician."

A former venture capitalist, Honour is running in a crowded field of Republicans who hope to oust DFL Gov. Mark Dayton next year.

While many of his rivals have long political resumes, including former Minnesota House Speaker Kurt Zellers and Hennepin County Commissioner and former state representative Jeff Johnson, Honour may be hoping that 2014 is a year of the outsider.

"He will shake up how our government operates," his supporters said of Honour, who helped raise money for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney last year.
