The war for endorsements is heating up in what is so far the most active City Council race of the 2013 campaign season.

Council Member Diane Hofstede, battling a challenger backed by several of her colleagues, said Monday that Minneapolis' current and former congressmen, as well as former vice president Walter Mondale, are endorsing her campaign.

The announcement, coupled with a previous list of endorsements, indicates how seriously Hofstede is taking the candidacy of attorney Jacob Frey.

Frey, who ran for state senate last year, is running an aggressive campaign for the seat, which straddles the city's central riverfront.

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison, former U.S. Rep Martin Olav Sabo, and Mondale support Hofstede's campaign, according to the announcement. She also counts the support of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local Union 1.
