Council Member Betsy Hodges picked up a mayoral endorsement today from Emily's List, a political action committee that supports pro-choice female candidates around the country.

"From improving Minneapolis' transportation infrastructure to increasing funding for job programs, Betsy Hodges has provided taxpayers with innovative solutions for years," said the organization's president, Stephanie Schriock, in a statement. "…She would be a staunch advocate for the middle class, work to expand quality childcare programs, and ensure that working families have a fair shot."

Hodges is the tenth female mayoral candidate endorsed by the PAC in 2013, the most it has ever backed in one year, according to spokeswoman Marcy Stech.

Last year, she said, "we saw the country send more women to office, to Congress, than we have ever seen in our country's history, so we really feel like there's this momentum to see more women elected to office at all levels. Which is why in 2013, we're interested in building that pipeline of [female] leaders and working on the year of the woman mayor."

Emily's List has made the maximum $500 contribution to Hodges.

Hodges won an endorsement in May from a similar group, womenwinning, which raises money for pro-choice female candidates in Minnesota. Her highest-profile female competitor in the crowded mayoral race in Minneapolis is former City Council president Jackie Cherryhomes.
