Rental cars will soon be available at St. Paul's Union Depot. Hertz will open an outlet next to the Amtrak ticketing and baggage area by Nov. 1, the Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority announced Tuesday.

Hertz will lease space at Union Depot for the next two years. It's counter will be staffed from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. seven days a week. Rental cars will be easily available in the Lot B drop off area, accessible from Kellogg Boulevard and Broadway Street.

The rental car company's arrival completes the multi modal vision for Union Depot as a full-service transit/transportation station and will complement its existing transit and transit options, the authority said.

Union Depot's menu of inter-city transportation options includes Amtrak, Jefferson Lines, Greyhound and Megabus.

Local service includes the Metro Transit Green Line, city bus service operated by Metro Transit and the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, and shuttle service to and from Mystic Lake and Treasure Island casinos.

In addition to taxi service, Union Depot also offers car sharing through Zipcar and bike sharing through Nice Ride.

"The car rental office will first and foremost serve customers traveling to the area, but its convenient location in this thriving neighborhood will benefit local residents seeking rental options for travel," said Rafael E. Ortega, chairman of the Ramsey County Regional Railroad Authority.

Union Depot is at 5th and Sibley Streets in downtown St. Paul.
