Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin made an early exit from today's practice at Winter Park, possibly because his ribs are bothering him for the second time in as many weeks.

Harvin left practice early on Aug. 8 in Mankato because he was winded and had sore ribs. On Tuesday, he walked to side with head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman and received medical attention before returning to the sidelines without his helmet.

"I'll be good," Harvin said as he left the field, giving a thumbs up sign. Players are told not to talk about their injuries, so Harvin was simply sticking with company policy when he refused to say if it was his ribs.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier was not scheduled to speak to the media after the practice. Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said he didn't know if Harvin's ribs were still bothering him. "[I] don't know if he still has his ribs bothering him or not, but we'll check, I'm sure, in our post-practice report," Musgrave said.

Harvin, of course, has been plagued with migraines during his first two seasons with the Vikings, but the team is hoping those are a thing of the past after Harvin said he had avoided the headaches throughout the offseason.

Harvin wasn't the only Viking to leave practice early. Rooke Jonathan Gilmore, an undrafted linebacker out of Western Oregon, left the field on a cart early on. Gilmore was sitting up as he rode off and didn't appear to be in serious pain of any type.

Among those who sat out were tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (hamstring), linebacker Heath Farwell (hamstring), defensive end D'Aundre Reed (calf) and cornerback Simeon Castille (hamstring). Offensive tackle Thomas Welch (glute) returned after missing Monday's practice.

Meanwhile, right guard Anthony Herrera took part in the full pads practice and participated in some of the snaps with the first-team during 11-on-11 work. Herrera (ACL) came off the physically-unable-to-perform list Monday but only did installation work that day.

There is a chance Herrera could see limited playing time Saturday night in Seattle. That would be his first action since he suffered the knee injury last November against Green Bay at the Metrodome.

Salary cap situation

Earlier today we posted a blog using information from Pro Football Talk regarding the Vikings' salary-cap information. PFT had the Vikings $380,000 below the $120 million cap. Well, NFL.com has its own cap figures and that website says the Vikings are $376,354 below the cap.

Anyway you stack it up, the Vikings are second to last in the NFL when it comes to cap space. NFL.com, by the way, has St. Louis last and reports the Rams are $822,036 over the cap.

Practice highlight

Linebacker Chad Greenway made a heck of an interception in 7-on-7 drills when he jumped to tip a Rhett Bomar pass in the air and then made a diving catch to complete the interception.

The brass is in town

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf, team president Mark Wilf and other members of ownership were in town on Monday and Tuesday for the annual meetings the group holds during training camp each year. Usually, those meetings are in Mankato but this time they were held at Winter Park.
