LAS VEGAS -- The temperature is hot. The football is not.
The Gophers own one 80-yard touchdown drive in the first half amid 90 degree temperatures, and a whole lot of disappointment otherwise. James Gillum ran 16 yards up the middle late in the first half to give Minnesota a 7-3 halftime lead, but the Gophers failed to score on their other five possessions.
On the other hand, UNLV isn't having much luck moving the ball, either, and that's probably the most heartening trend for the Gophers. Minnesota's defensive line is getting good pressure on Rebels quarterback Nick Sherry, and UNLV hasn't come close to reaching the end zone. The Gophers have limited UNLV to just a 39-yard field goal by Nolan Kohorst on the Rebels' first possession of the game.
MarQueis Gray has completed eight of 14 passes for 116 yards, while Sherry is 12-of-18 for 93 yards for the Rebels. Both quarterbacks have thrown interceptions.
