A man shot and seriously wounded a woman in Brooklyn Park and a suspect was on the run until police caught him early Sunday, authorities said.

The gunfire occurred about 9 p.m. Saturday in the 7900 block of Bryant Court N., according to police.

By the time the officers got to the scene, the gunman had fled, according to Deputy Police Chief Mark Bruley.

The 37-year-old suspect was caught shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday and jailed in Brooklyn Park on suspicion of first-degree and domestic assault charges.

The woman was hospitalized, and her condition was not immediately known. Police have not disclosed her identity.

Court records show the suspect has convictions in Minnesota for assault, drunken driving and fleeing police.
