It was another record month of ridership for the Green Line, the fledgling rail service connecting the downtowns of St. Paul and Minneapolis, transit officials said Monday.

There were 1,131,264 rides on the Green Line in October, up 6 percent from September's seven-figure total and a monthly record that will be tough to break in November, which has 30 days vs. October's 31 and a long holiday weekend thrown in to boot.

Average weekday ridership was 38,597 in October, which is 40 percent higher than 2015 projections and already closing in on Metro Transit's projected average weekday ridership of nearly 41,000 for 2030.

There have been 4,609,209 total rides on the Green Line since service began in June.

The most active Green Line stop in October was East Bank Station, near the University of Minnesota, averaging 4,994 weekday boardings. Next were Nicollet Mall, Central, Snelling and Stadium Village.
