Gov. Mark Dayton underwent a successful operation at Mayo Clinic on Monday to repair a tendon that detached from his hip, his office says.

"The surgery went great," said Matt Swenson, a Dayton spokesman. "He is resting comfortably."

The procedure had Dayton under general anesthesia and was scheduled to last about an hour.

Dayton will remain at Mayo Clinic another couple days, Swenson said. He will need to be in a hip brace about three months, which will limit his travel.

The governor fell at the residence last year, damaging the tendon. Dayton said he was not in serious pain, but the fall made his hip less stable.

Dayton, 67, has had three procedures at Mayo Clinic since taking office, including a back surgery in late 2012 and a platelet injection last fall to help with his hip.
