The No. 2 Gophers volleyball team continued to build up steam heading toward the postseason, winning at Northwestern 25-14, 25-13, 25-10 on Sunday.

The Gophers (21-4, 13-3 Big Ten) have won their past six matches and have not dropped a set in any of them.

Sunday, they hit .475 to Northwestern's .097, with 44 kills to the Wildcats' 28, and also had a 10-1 edge in blocks.

Sarah Wilhite had 12 kills while hitting .370 to go along with 10 digs. Hannah Tapp had nine kills wile hitting .571.

The Gophers finish the regular season with four home matches, all against ranked teams. No. 15 Michigan State visits Friday, No. 17 Michigan on Sunday, No. 1 Nebraska on Nov. 23 and No. 3 Wisconsin on Nov. 26.

Four U wrestling titles

The Gophers' top 133-pound wrestlers along with brothers Chris Pfarr at 184 pounds and Brett Pfarr at 197 went undefeated at Sunday's Journeymen/Asics Collegiate Classic in Troy, N.Y., winning titles in their respective groups in the round-robin, pool-based competition.

Freshman Mitch McKee captured the 133A group title by finishing 3-0, while senior Sam Brancale won the 133B group at 4-0. The Pfarrs each posted 3-0 records on the day.

NCAA soccer

Christian Elliehausen scored in the third minute and substitute Tony Kuplic in the 73rd as No. 8 St. Thomas defeated visiting Luther 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament.

The Tommies (18-1-3) set a school record for victories and will make their first trip to the round of 16 since 1990.

• After playing to a 2-2 draw, Fort Hays State won a shootout 4-2 over host Minnesota State Mankato in the Central Region semifinals of the Division II women's tournament. Dana Savino scored both goals for the Mavericks (16-3-3), both off assists from Kiana Nickel.

• Host Chicago beat Augsburg 2-0 in the NCAA D-III women's tournament, ending the Auggies' season at 18-5. Augsburg's nine seniors leave as the winningest class in program history at 59-19-5.
