U, Alberta to face off

The No. 3 Gophers men's hockey team will play Alberta at 5 p.m. Sunday at Mariucci Arena in its only exhibition game.

Most, if not all, of the six freshmen will likely play, including Eden Prairie forward Casey Mittelstadt. Sophomore defenseman Tyler Nanne, who was on the Ohio State roster in 2015-16, also will be eligible to play for Minnesota after sitting out a season under NCAA transfer rules.

Junior goalie Eric Schierhorn, who has made 75 consecutive starts, returns in the nets.

Alberta played at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday night.
