St. Cloud – Megan Wolfe and Nina Rodgers — two players not usually known as scorers — got goals 1 minute, 15 seconds apart early in the second period for the Gophers, helping to break open a close game against St. Cloud State.

Their goals built a three-goal lead at 8:08 of the second period and the No. 2-ranked Gophers added three goals in the final six minutes of a 7-1 victory at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Wolfe's goal was her first of the season. Rodgers scored her fourth, and second of the series.

"I thought from the drop of the puck we were controlling the play with a lot of good puck movement," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "Lots of great chances, their goaltender made several big saves.

"In particular after last night, thinking we were a bit sluggish at times, I thought tonight was a real complete hockey game for us."

Meghan Lorence got the Gophers' only goal of the first period at 10:17. Maryanne Menefee made it 2-0 for Minnesota (23-1-3, 16-1-3-1) at 1:01 of the second.

Alyssa Erickson scored for St. Cloud State (6-20-1, 3-16-1-1) on a power-play a 15:38 of the second period.

Hannah Brandt, Kelly Pannek and Cara Piazza got the three late goals for Minnesota. Brandt, a junior forward who surpassed 200 career points on Friday, also had four assists.

Amanda Leveille made 14 saves for the Gophers. St. Could State goalie Katie Fitzgerald stopped 47 shots.

The Gophers, who prevailed 4-0 in the series opener, have won 27 consecutive games over the Huskies.
