The Gophers men's hockey team will open Big Ten play against Penn State on Friday night without its top returning scorer, as Tyler Sheehy is "week-to-week" with an unspecified injury, the team announced.
Sheehy, a junior from Burnsville, is the team's captain and was a first team All-American last season with a team-high 53 points.
Last weekend, Sheehy opened the season at right wing on a line with center Tommy Novak and left wing Leon Bristedt. Freshman Brannon McManus will take over at right wing on that line Friday.
Penn State (1-1) defeated the Gophers 4-3 in double overtime in last season's Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
