Lynx update: The Lynx begin their defense of the 2013 title against a team that beat them twice last year. The Lynx will give the Mystics a different look. Starter Rebekkah Brunson and top reserves Monica Wright and Devereaux Peters out following knee surgeries. So the Lynx will need significant minutes from rookies Damiris Dantas and Asia Taylor inside and free-agent signee Tan White at guard.

Mystics update: Mike Thibault, the league's 2013 coach of the year, oversaw a turnaround that took the Mystics from five wins in 2012 to a playoff berth last season. Once again the Mystics — without Minnesota native Tayler Hill because she is on maternity leave — are a young, talented team with a few key veterans but without a ton of star power. F Crystal Langhorne is gone. But the Mystics added G Kara Lawson and G Bria Hartley via trade and drafted C Stefanie Dolson. Dolson and Hartley are former UConn teammates.
