GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Chaska ties for league lead

• CHASKA 59, BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 55: In celebration of senior night at Chaska High School, the senior Hawks each sported a T-shirt with their head photoshopped onto an NBA player's body.

Senior Emily Waletski wore Kobe Bryant's frame and fittingly embodied the Lakers sharpshooter's persona, scoring 25 points in a career outing against Class 3A, No. 10 Eagles on Friday night.

"In practice you know if she gets the ball she's going to do something with it," junior teammate Sarah Althaus said of Waletski. "Whether if she shoots — which she proved tonight she can — or if she drives, you never know with her. She works hard and she really wants it."

Waletski hit six three pointers in leading the Hawks to the upset in a clutch performance that secured a tie for first in the standings.

"It was one of the best games I've seen [Waletski] play and her confidence was there it was great to see," coach Tara Seifert said.

Despite her outstanding individual effort, it was largely a team victory as the Hawks had to defend Lashayla Wright-Ponder, who has committed to South Dakota. Wright-Ponder scored 28 points.

"I'm just more happy we got the win," Waletski said. "It was a big win for our conference, especially because we were only a game behind Kennedy. So to get the win as a team, it was a big deal."

Kennedy held out starting point guard Tyrah Spencer, who suffered a head injury against Robbinsdale Cooper on Tuesday, as a safety precaution.

The loss ended the Hawks' seven-game winning streak that followed the initial loss to Chaska. In both games the Hawks didn't allow another double-digit scorer besides Ponder.
