Penn State tops Michigan to assist Gophers in race

• PENN STATE 6, MICHIGAN 4: The Nittany Lions (17-12-4, 9-7-1 Big Ten), who had won only one of their past six games, gave the Gophers a big boost in the conference race by beating the Wolverines (19-12, 11-6). No. 16 Michigan and the Gophers, who won 4-2 at Ohio State, are now tied for first place with three games left for both. Goals by Eric Scheid, David Goodwin and Chase Bailey — Penn State's top three goal-scorers — gave the home team a 3-0 lead after the opening period. Eamonn McAdam had 41 saves for Penn State.

•  MICHIGAN STATE 3, WISCONSIN 0: Matt Berry scored two goals and Jake Hildebrand stopped 21 shots as the Spartans (15-14-2, 9-6-2-2) defeated the Badgers (4-23-4, 2-13-2-2) to stay in the title chase.

• NORTH DAKOTA 2, MIAMI 1: Keaton Thompson and Connor Gaarder scored goals to lead No. 1 UND (25-6-3, 16-5-2 NCHC) past the No. 5 RedHawks (20-12-1, 13-9-1-1). With the victory, UND clinched an outright Penrose Cup which goes to the conference regular-season champion. Gaarder's winner gave North Dakota a 2-0 lead at 1:56 of the second period. Miami, which could have tied for first with a sweep this weekend, cut the lead to one goal on Sean Kuraly's power-play at 7:49 of the second. UND goalie Zane McIntyre stopped 43 shots; Jay Williams had 25 saves of the RedHawks.

• MINN. DULUTH 6, WESTERN MICHIGAN 3: Dominic Toninato scored two goals to lead the No. 6 Bulldogs (20-12-3, 12-8-3) over the host Broncos (12-16-5, 5-13-5-4). The two teams combined for seven goals in the second period, which ended with UMD ahead 4-3 on Andy Welinski's goal with 1:42 left. Toninato got both his goals in the third period.

• BEMIDJI STATE 5, MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO 2: The John Parker had two goals as the Beavers (16-14-5, 12-10-5 WCHA) beat the No. 2 Mavericks (24-7-3, 20-4-3) to keep them from clinching the McNaughton Cup.
