Kaitlin Langer scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half, and St. Thomas used a big fourth quarter to hold off the University of Chicago 73-69 in the second round of the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament Saturday night at the Tommies' Schoenecker Arena.

St. Thomas, the second-ranked team in Division III, improved to 29-0 and advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in six seasons. The Tommies are 27-5 in the postseason since the 2011-12 season.

The Tommies pushed ahead with an 11-3 run early in the fourth quarter, taking the lead for good at 55-53 at the 4:45 mark on a basket by Langer.

Langer's layup with 1:52 to play gave the Tommies a 64-55 lead. From there, St. Thomas held on by going 9-for-10 at the free-throw line over the final 37 seconds.

The Tommies made 26 of 32 free throws overall, helping them overcome 36.8 percent shooting from the floor.

Langer, who on Thursday was named MIAC Player of the Year for the second year in a row, also had 10 rebounds. Renikoff added 17 points, and Maddie Wolkow scored 12 off the bench.

Freshman Britta Nordstom led the Maroons (19-8) with 18 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 9-for-15 from the floor.

St. Thomas' next game will be Friday against Marymount (Va.), a 68-59 winner over Albright on Saturday.

Greenville (Ill.) 70, Northwestern (Roseville) 55: Taylor Paulin scored 25 points and the host Panthers (20-9) beat the Eagles (18-10) in the North Central Regional final of the National Christian College Athletic Association tournament.

Tiffany Stubbs had 15 points and Amy Berglund added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Northwestern.
