The Gophers men's hockey program announced Tuesday it bolstered the coaching staff with the addition of two alums and former hockey standouts.
Ben Gordon, the International Falls, Minn., native, was named the assistant director of hockey operations and Corey Millen, the former NHL forward from Cloquet, Minn., joins the staff as an undergraduate assistant.
"Ben and Corey share our passion and vision for the Gopher Hockey program, and we are excited to welcome them back to campus as members of our staff," head coach Don Lucia said in a press release. "Ben and Corey have had great success both as players and coaches and that wealth of experience will be a tremendous asset for our players and our program."
Millen, 52, returns to campus to finish his undergraduate degree in recreation, park and leisure studies. He led the Gophers program in the 1980s to three berths in the Frozen Four and finished his college career with 241 points and 119 goals. Only John Mayasich and Pat Micheletti have totaled more points and goals than Millen in program history. He also has experience competing with the USA hockey team during the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics.
Millen played 14 years of professional hockey including stints with the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers. He most recently was the head coach of the Minnesota Wilderness in the North American Hockey League.
Gordon, 31, will oversee the day-to-day video operations and assist with general hockey operations responsibilities. He was a four-year letter winner with the Gophers from 2004-2008 and named the team's unsung hero in 2006.
Following his college career, Gordon played six seasons of professional hockey before transitioning to coaching. He was an assistant and interim head coach at St. Scholastica in Duluth and was an assistant coach for the 2016 Tri-City Storm USHL championship team.
