Five Minnesotans are among more than 140 college students selected from across the country to participate in the summer White House internship program.

The interns from the state are:

• Bridget Cummings of Chaska, a student at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn.

• Mathew Goldstein of St. Paul, a student at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

• Jacob Hegge of La Crescent, a student at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.

• Shahrzad Mohtadi of Edina, a student at Columbia University in New York City.

• Magdelena Morrow of St. Peter, a student at Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

The White House says the mission of the program is to make the White House and its employees accessible to students and to prepare them for future leadership opportunities.

Interns work in departments ranging from the office of Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, a Stillwater native, to the offices of Cabinet Affairs, the First Lady and the Vice President.

Tony Ukin, communications director for Democratic Rep. Tim Walz, is among the Minnesotans who have worked as White House interns in the past.
