A small fire broke out late Wednesday morning in a University of Minnesota building that is undergoing renovations, a school spokesman said.

Fire crews quickly put out the fire at Tate Laboratory of Physics, and there were no reported injuries among the construction crew inside at the time, said spokesman Steve Henneberry.

The fire was believed to be electrical in nature, Henneberry added.

City fire crews remained on the scene, requiring the closure of Church Street next to the building, he said.

Tate has been closed since September for upgrades and is scheduled to reopen in 2017.
