A liquor-fueled fight in an Eagan apartment between roommates left one man dead and the other jailed, authorities said Wednesday.

The 36-year-old victim was found unconscious and with facial injuries in a unit in the Cinnamon Ridge Apartments complex in the 4500 block of Slater Road, off of Cliff Road and just west of Cedar Avenue, police said. Efforts by police officers and other first responders to revive the man failed.

The 28-year-old roommate was the one who called police about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday and said he had been fighting with the victim. The 28-year-old was arrested and awaits charges. Authorities have yet to say what led to the fighting, and his identity was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

"Investigators believe alcohol was involved" in the violence, police said in a statement. Preliminary breath tests administered to two other people in the apartment measured their blood-alcohol levels at 0.195 and 0.205 percent, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Minnesota.

Results of the suspect's blood-alcohol test were pending, police said.

The last contact officers had at the victim's apartment involved a noise complaint last June. The suspect has a previous arrest for misdemeanor assault, police said.
