A man whose fiery single-vehicle crash in north Minneapolis late at night left him severely burned and with many other injuries has died after nearly a month in the hospital, authorities said Sunday.

Shane McCormick, 27, of Green Isle, Minn., was driving alone in north Minneapolis about 12:30 a.m. on May 20 and struck a traffic signal pole, according to his family. His vehicle burst into flames near at the intersection of Olson Hwy. and Bryant Avenue.

After undergoing multiple surgeries at Hennepin County Medical Center for burns to his face and elsewhere, McCormick died Friday, the Hennepin County medical examiner's office said.

Police have yet to say what led to McCormick's vehicle striking the pole.
