At least two deaths were reported on Minnesota roads at the start of the Memorial Day weekend. A third person died in a crash in western Wisconsin that also injured seven people.

Theodore J. Beecroft, 72, of Fridley, died just before 4 p.m. Friday in a one-vehicle crash on westbound Hwy. 10 in Sherburne County's Big Lake Township, according to the State Patrol.

Beecroft was driving a Dodge Dakota west in the left lane of Hwy. 10 when it swerved into the median, fishtailed back onto the roadway, then re-entered the median and rolled into a concrete barrier. He died at the scene. His passenger, Donna Rae Beecroft, 67, suffered noncritical injuries. Both Beecrofts were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not involved, the patrol said.

On Friday afternoon, motorcyclist Charles P. Grassinger, 79, of Faribault, died when he hit a pickup truck in Rice County. Grassinger, driving a 2000 Harley-Davidson, was westbound on Hwy. 99 when he struck a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado as it made a left turn. Grassinger, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The Silverado driver, Darrin Turek, 35, of Montgomery, Minn., who was driving south on Kanabec Avenue, had stopped for a stop sign, the patrol said. Turek, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt. Alcohol was not a factor.

In Wisconsin, the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office reported a fatal crash Saturday on Hwy. 64 in Forest Township. Ellen L. Gordon, 59, of Hayward, Wis., died when the 2010 Ford Fusion she was driving west crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Ford F150 head-on just after 11 a.m. A passenger in Gordon's vehicle and six people in the pickup were injured. The crash marked the county's fifth traffic fatality of 2017.
