If you read too much, which, I admit, I read way too much, especially in winter, and it's usually page after page about winter, because when I'm in a winter I like being fully engaged in the season, well after awhile you find some real snowballs in all this frozen literature. For instance: winter wit, - "winter is the season in which people try to keep the house as warm as it was in the summer, when they complained about the heat." ~Author Unknown. Maybe you want a financial winter, "to shorten winter, borrow some money due in spring." ~W.J. Vogel. That's got a clever bite to me and seems to be oh so true with regards to home heating bills. How about a revealing winter, -"I was just thinking, if it is really religion with these nudist colonies, they sure must turn atheists in the wintertime." ~Will Rogers, as only Wiley Will could utter. Hey maybe too cloudy a winter perhaps? "I like these cold, gray winter days. Days like these let you savor a bad mood." ~Bill Watterson. Or this little zinger, "winter is nature's way of saying, "Up yours." ~Robert Byrne. How about an actor, in an autobiography that really lacks any appreciation for cold,"…and some places you been before, are so great, that you don't ever mind going back. Some places you been before, you don't ever want to go back, you know, like Montreal in the winter." Morgan Freeman. And, of course, the gentle appreciation or the far sighted with respect to winter, "Autumn arrives in early morning, but spring, at the close of a winter day." Elizabeth Bowen. Or "Laughter, is the sun, that drives winter, from the human face." Victor Hugo How about a political winter, "for those of you who don't understand Reaganomics, it's based on the principle that the rich and the poor will get the same amount of ice. In Reaganomics, however, the poor, get all of theirs in winter." Mo Udall A sporting winter, "I had slumps that lasted into the winter." Bob Uecker. "There are only two seasons - winter and Baseball." Bill Veeck When I dug this out of a warm tropical beach book I almost flipped, it's just beyond my imagination, someone who claimed he never ever experienced winter, "I have never seen snow and do not know what winter means." But Duke Kahanamoku, a Hawaiian surfer born August 24, 1890, may have lived out his life just never knowing. And with a name like Robert Frost, what else would you expect, "You can't get too much winter, in the winter." Finally, this made me think of my first grade teacher at recess many years ago, "I think winter wear is communal. You get some gloves and a scarf from a lost-and-found box, wash them, wear them for a while until you lose them. Then somebody else does the same thing." Adrian Grenier The trout whisperer
