A suspected drunken driver ran a red light, killed another motorist at a Fridley intersection and was arrested at the scene, police said Tuesday.

The collision occurred about 6:40 p.m. Monday at the intersection of East River Road and 42nd Avenue NE., according to police.

An Infiniti was northbound on East River Road when it went through the red light and hit a Subaru heading east on 42nd as it was turning left, said Police Lt. Jim Mork.

Emergency responders declared the Subaru driver dead at the scene east of the Mississippi River and in front of the Minneapolis municipal water treatment plant. Authorities have yet to release his identity.

Emmanuel Seekie, 30, of Andover, remains jailed Tuesday on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and drunken driving. He has yet to be charged.

He refused a preliminary breath test at the scene and medical attention as well. A blood sample was taken after his arrest to determine his level of intoxication, Mork said.
