If we told you Doomtree is sneaking in a short, semi-secret show tonight, where would you guess it's happening? First Avenue? The Triple Rock? How about Roosevelt High School?

The south Minneapolis school has been confirmed as the place in an email the Twin Cities hip-hop collective sent out through its mailing list this afternoon. Doors are at 6 p.m., showtime is 7 p.m., and some all-ages tickets will be available at the door (exactly how many is unclear, though). Turns out, the hip-hop crew – which hasn't performed as a whole locally since their Blowout shows in December -- has been hosting a 10-week after-school creative writing workshop at Roosevelt.

"Tonight is the final performance, so a bunch of students are gonna perform spoken word and rap pieces that they've been working on throughout the workshop – and they are awesome," reports Doomtree producer/beatmaker Lazerbeak. "And then we're gonna perform for a bit afterwards."

By coincidence or not, Doomtree's pals in Heiruspecs are also active high school boosters and will play their fourth annual scholarship fundraiser May 18 at the Turf Club. They've raised an impressive $12,000 already for students going on to music education at the band's alma mater, St. Paul Central. This year's show will also feature Sean Anonymous, Whistlekid and DJ Beatnick. Details and tickets here.
