A decision over whether the owner of a 5-foot sliver of land on Medicine Lake can have a dock has been postponed until April.

Dan Gustafson of Minnetonka requested the city of Plymouth change zoning rules to let him have a dock on the narrow land he had bought.

The city's Planning Commission was expected to vote on the changes last Wednesday, but instead decided to continue a public hearing on the issue until April 2 — despite a request by an attorney for Gustafson's neighbors to resolve the issue sooner.

He bought the old fire lane wedged between two houses for $28,000 in 2012. Last October, the City Council denied his appeal to have a dock, saying it's an accessory structure, which isn't permitted in that area without a principal building like a house.
