Ice on pavement made the news in Moorhead this week for two reasons -- one having nothing to do with weather.

Just as the Red River Valley got its first blast of wintry elements, Moorhead police coincidentally announced they're looking for the owner of a valuable diamond a citizen found in a parking lot.

According to a story in the Forum newspaper, a south Moorhead man found the oval-shaped gem about two weeks ago in the Holiday Mall parking lot near Eighth Street and 24th Avenue South, by a Little Ceasar's restaurant.

A jeweler assessed the diamond at just under one carat, with a value of about $7,000. Moorhead Police said the diamond has an ID number that could help them reunite it with its owner, if he or she can cite the number.
