If you go

A car is recommended for touring MiMo and Wynwood. Both areas are also navigable by bicycle, but are too far away from South or North beaches to get there by bike. For public transportation options see miamidade.gov/transit.

MiMo: To most appreciate the district, it's wise to do a little online exploring first. (The Wikipedia page for Miami Modern Architecture is a good start. For architecture geeks, the book "Miami Architecture: An AIA Guide" provides a lot of back stories.) Recommended restaurants: Michy's (6927 Biscayne Blvd.; www.michysmiami.com, $$$), Soyko (5556 NE. 4th Ct., www.soykarestaurant.com, $$) and Andiamo Pizza (5600 Biscayne Blvd., www.andiamopizzamiami.com, $).

Wynwood Walls and Doors: Viewing is free and open to the public. The adjacent park space is accessible when the Wynwood Kitchen & Bar is open (11 a.m.-11 p.m. Mon.-Sat., 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sun; 2550 NW. 2nd Av., $$). See www.thewynwoodwalls.com for more info. For cheap eats, try the Wynwood Café at the Art Place Wynwood (2722 NW. 2nd Av., www.theartplacewynwood.com, $).
