Nothing new to report at this point (10:20 a.m. on Monday), but free-agent defensive end Mike Montgomery is scheduled to be at Winter Park today to visit with the team. The Vikings' only free-agent signing of note has been kickoff specialist Rhys Lloyd.

Montgomery has spent his five-year career with Green Bay and actually signed a two-year extension with the Packers last offseason. But the 6-5, 282-pound Montgomery had injury problems in 2009 and also wasn't a good fit for the 3-4 defensive scheme the Packers switched to under new coordinator Dom Capers.

In the Vikings' 4-3 defense, Montgomery could serve as a backup at both end positions, although right end Jared Allen rarely comes out, and also could move inside in passing situations to replace nose tackle Pat Williams.

The Vikings like to substitute frequently at many of their positions on the line to keep their players fresh, so I don't see this as a reflection of any dissatisfaction with backup end Brian Robison.
