Dance team state tournament

When: Jazz competition on Friday, high kick on Saturday

Where: Target Center

Performances: Teams compete in three classes. In each class, 12 teams perform in a first round to determine six finalists that dance again later in the day. Class 1A teams begin their first round at 11:30 a.m. both days, Class 2A and 3A teams begin their first rounds at 2 p.m.

Scoring: Judges use a 100-point scale to score team performances in each round. Points are awarded for execution, choreography, difficulty, routine effectiveness and a fifth category tailored for the jazz or high-kick performance.

Defending champs: All six championship teams from 2015 are back to defend titles. In jazz, those are Duluth Marshall (Class 1A), Benilde-St. Margaret's (2A) and Maple Grove (3A). In high kick, those are Aitkin (1A), Sartell-St. Stephen (2A) and Faribault, which won the 3A title last year but is competing in Class 2A on Saturday.
