A vehicle crash shortly after the morning commute Monday sent a live electrical wire onto a St. Paul interstate, briefly bringing traffic to a halt, transportation officials said.

The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. near southbound I-35E and the University Avenue exit, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation metro operations center.

Xcel Energy rendered the wire dead and allowed the interstate to reopen within 10 minutes, the operations center added.

However, the ramp from I-35E to University Avenue remained closed because of the crash.
