Rookie cornerback Chris Cook appears set to make his NFL debut Sunday after being out since the Vikings' third preseason game because of a knee injury.

Cook, who had arthroscopic surgery to repaire a torn meniscus in his right knee, said he worked with the first-team defense this week in the nickel package and also rotated in with the first-team base defense. Cook said that rotation also included fellow cornerback Cedric Griffin, who is working to return after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last January in the NFC title game.

Both Cook and Griffin are listed as questionable on the Vikings' injury report, meaning there is a 50-50 chance they play.

"I feel pretty good," Cook said. "I had three good days of practice. Day one I had one interception, yesterday I had two, today I should have had three. Didn't happen that way. I got three break-ups instead. I feel like my movements are good and I'm just waiting for the green light. ... Personally I feel good, I feel like I'm game-ready and I feel like I can do anything that the coaches ask me to do as far as our defensive calls. I'm just waiting on somebody to tell me what the word is."

Cook said he might get the green light either today or Saturday when the Vikings hold their walk-through a day before playing Detroit. Cook and Griffin both worked out before last Sunday's game against Miami at Mall of America Field, but Cook said his workload in practice this week was much greater than last.

"I'm doing way more," he said. "Last week I wasn't taking reps with the defense. This week I took reps with the defense and I was doing defense and show team just to try to get my wind up. That was pretty successful because I felt pretty good running around out there."

Griffin, who has been practicing for three weeks, said he's getting increased reps. "I feel really comfortable right now," he said. "My confidence is high. I feel good with my legs, my wind is great right now. I think I'll get in the game one of these weeks and see how it goes from there."

As for the rest of the injury report, the only other Vikings player listed as questionable is defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy. Kennedy hasn't played in a game this season after injuring his knee in the second exhibition game at San Francisco. Listed as probable, meaning it's a virtual certainty they will play, are WR Bernard Berrian (knee), QB Brett Favre (ankle, right elbow), WR Percy Harvin (hip), LB Ben Leber (back), OT Bryant McKinnie (finger) and C John Sullivan (calf). Vikings safety fined Safety Madieu Williams was fined $5,000 by the NFL for striking a defenseless receiver in head and neck area last week. Williams was called for unnecessary roughness after hitting Miami's Brian Hartline on an incomplete pass along the sideline in the third quarter. Burleson, Stafford to sit for Lions Wide receiver Nate Burleson (ankle) and quarterback Matthew Stafford (right shoulder) have been declared out of Sunday's game against the Vikings. Defensive end Cliff Avril (knee, finger) is questionable, as are linebacker DeAndre Levy (groin), right guard Stephen Peterman (foot). Etc.

  • Asked about the fact Favre was listed with a right elbow issue on the injury report Thursday and Friday, Childress said: "[It's] just a right elbow. Might as well list it before he talks about it." That was a reference to Favre disclosing injury information in the past.
