The Concordia (St. Paul) volleyball team continues its quest for a sixth consecutive Division II national championship, which would tie the NCAA record for all divisions.

Concordia (St. Paul), the five-time defending national champion, defeated Wingate (S.C.) 3-1 in the quarterfinals in the NCAA Division II volleyball tournament Thursday in Pensacola, Fla.

Concordia was led by seniors Cassie Haag with 15 kills and a .333 attack percentage and Ellie Duffy with 17 kills.

"Couldn't be more proud that we're moving on," Golden Bears coach Brady Starkey said on the team's website. "I thought we gutted out a performance against a team that was really scrappy. ... Our offense wasn't flowing as well as it normally does but we just scrapped it out."

Concordia now has won 34 consecutive NCAA tournament matches and has a overall record of 42-4 in 10 tournament appearances.

The top-ranked Golden Bears (31-4) will face No. 5 Brigham Young-Hawaii (25-3), which stopped West Texas A&M 3-0 in a semifinal match at 5 p.m. Friday at the University of West Florida.

Lynx's Reeve gets extensionThe Lynx signed coach Cheryl Reeve to a multiyear contract extension Thursday. Terms were not disclosed.

Reeve has a .657 winning percentage (67-35) in three seasons, and was the league's coach of the year in 2011 when the Lynx won the WNBA title.

"We have a great thing going here in Minnesota -- great players, great staff and great fans -- and I'm very grateful to be in this situation," Reeve said in a statement.

TCM awarded 2013, '14 national championshipsThe Twin Cities Marathon was awarded the USA national championships for both men and women for 2013 and 2014 this week by USA Track and Field. The marathon has been the USA championship nine times since 1986. The USA Championships mean a purse of $145,000 in 2013 for the marathon, including $25,000 to each winner.
